ABOUT D.B.L.
D.B.L. is an internationally acclaimed recording artist, songwriter, producer, actor, dancer and creative entrepreneur, and a Caribbean icon whose career spans music, television, film and live performance.
Born in St. Lucia, D.B.L. began his career as child performer DONNY B. LORD, managed by his aunt, singer, performer and songwriter SANDRA LORD. His mother, ALLISON LORD, a classically trained professional dancer, recognized his talent early and encouraged an artistic education that included ballet, modern, jazz and tap, alongside acting, voice and martial arts. His training included work with BRIAN REISE, TERRY BERLAND, THE GROUNDLINGS, JUDY CARTER and SETH RIGGS.
As a young actor and performer, D.B.L. booked work for DISNEY, HBO, FOX and CBS, including a co-starring role as the young HANK GATHERS in FINAL SHOT: THE HANK GATHERS STORY. His commercial work included national campaigns for PEPSI, CHEERIOS and FOOT LOCKER, with features in publications including THE LOS ANGELES TIMES, THE NEW YORK TIMES and ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER.
His exceptional abilities as a dancer and musician caught the attention of JACKIE JACKSON of THE JACKSONS, beginning a mentorship that would become instrumental to his development as an artist.
With a longstanding connection to JACKSON and the JACKSON family, D.B.L. expanded his craft into songwriting, music production, piano, percussion and guitar under JACKSON’S guidance. The relationship became part of his professional story and was chronicled in MICHAEL JACKSON, INC. by Forbes senior editor ZACK O’MALLEY GREENBURG.
“He’s a hardworking artist who learned the business through me, a great dancer and an incredible entertainer,” JACKSON told BILLBOARD.
In 2018, D.B.L. signed with CRITICALLY AMUSED, the music label founded by JACKIE JACKSON, releasing ANOTHER ROUND and the ISLAND VIBEZ EP, executive produced by JACKSON. He followed with COME BACK HOME, further developing a sound shaped by reggae, R&B, Afrobeats and pop and informed by his Caribbean roots and international perspective.
His music has also been licensed for television and advertising, with placements for CBS, MTV, MOTOROLA and VERIZON.
His return to his native St. Lucia became another important chapter in his career. During the trip, D.B.L. met with the country’s PRIME MINISTER, donated to schools and spent time mentoring young people.
Now based in Las Vegas, he has also received recognition from the city’s MAYOR for his contribution to its cultural landscape.
In 2025, D.B.L. released TIME TO BREAK AWAY, written by D.B.L. and produced by multi-instrumentalist TRA’ZAE CLINTON, grandson of funk pioneer GEORGE CLINTON.
Driven by foot stomps, percussion and uplifting chants, the record draws together Caribbean influences, R&B, funk and hip-hop with themes of freedom, resilience and personal transformation.
The collaboration with CLINTON continued into film with the title song for SANDRA LORD’s acclaimed short film CINNAMON and into their subsequent release, WIND UP, a celebration of Caribbean culture and movement inspired by D.B.L.'s St. Lucian roots.
Performing and traveling throughout the United States, Caribbean, United Kingdom and Europe, D.B.L. brings a global perspective to his work rooted in his Dougla heritage and a lifetime of multidisciplinary training.
He attended BRENTWOOD SCHOOL, graduated from the AMERICAN SCHOOL IN LONDON, and later graduated with honors from the USC ANNENBERG SCHOOL for Communications and Journalism.
Today, D.B.L. extends that experience beyond his own work as the founder of ROXXSTAR ENTERTAINMENT, a Las Vegas-based multimedia company working across music, consulting and public relations.
Through ROXXSTAR, he works with artists, filmmakers and brands while continuing to develop his own music and creative projects.
OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO: TIME TO BREAK AWAY
TIME TO BREAK AWAY is a global call to conscience — a visual and musical reflection of a world in pain, resistance, and transformation.
This new official video weaves together powerful imagery from the Civil Rights Movement, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Black Lives Matter, global protests, war, injustice, and humanity’s ongoing fight for equality, dignity, and truth. From the streets to the front lines, from silence to uprising — this is a reminder that change begins when we choose to break away from systems, thinking, and cycles that no longer serve humanity.
“Ally my troops… revolutionaries… soldiers… break away.”
This is not about politics.
This is about people.
This is about courage.
This is about love.
This is about now.
