Our first task was comprehension. We mapped the Great Houses, bloodlines, political interests, religious systems, terminology and character relationships against the knowledge audiences carried from the first film. Research sessions helped identify where viewers remained confident and where unfamiliar names, customs or political relationships caused them to lose the consequence of a scene even when they understood the action.Arrakis then required a deeper cultural study.

Our research connected ecology, scarcity, religion, power and survival to the material world of the Fremen. Clothing references examined construction, layering, textiles, ornament and environmental purpose. Architecture, objects, customs and symbols received the same treatment.

The resulting cultural dossiers and visual studies gave creative teams reasons behind the details instead of a library of aesthetically similar references. We translated those findings into creative briefs, treatments, storyboards, character and House frameworks, executive presentations and audience concepts. Location strategy sessions considered what environments communicated about power, resources and culture before dialogue supplied context.

Test screenings and research sessions helped us refine the balance between accessibility and discovery, particularly where added explanation solved one problem but diminished the intelligence or mystery of the world. The film’s move from November 2023 to March 2024 extended the period in which we needed to sustain anticipation.

The depth already mapped across Houses, characters, beliefs, objects, places and lore gave the property substantive territory for continued fan engagement. Instead of repeatedly returning to the same spectacle, teams could draw from the systems and histories that made Arrakis worth exploring in the first place.

Details & Info

Warner Bros. and Legendary had already taught audiences the basic language of Arrakis; Dune: Part Two now needed to deepen its cultures, politics and relationships while bringing a broader audience into an exceptionally dense mythology. They tapped our creative expertise to explore that expansion, translate the complexity of Herbert’s world into compelling audience territory and identify new opportunities for sustained fan engagement.
