HAVANA, BROTHER explores the untold story of WILLIAM LEE BRENT, a man shaped by poverty, prison and racial injustice who finds in Oakland's BLACK PANTHER PARTY what has eluded him most of his life: purpose, dignity and brotherhood. Rising to the rank of captain and into the Party's inner circle, Brent throws himself into the fight for Black liberation as America descends into one of its most volatile eras of racial conflict, police violence and political upheaval.
But behind the discipline and conviction of the revolutionary is a man carrying the wounds of the life that came before it. As police pressure intensifies around the Panthers, Brent struggles to reconcile the Party's discipline with the instincts that once kept him alive on the streets and in prison. His loyalty to the movement demands restraint, while fear of police, distrust of authority and a deeply ingrained instinct to survive tell him to strike first.
When a volatile encounter with police erupts into gunfire, leaving two officers critically wounded, Brent faces the prospect he fears most: returning to prison. Worse, the movement that gave his life meaning turns against him.
Rejected by his comrades, wanted by authorities and convinced that capture will cost him the rest of his life, Brent reaches a breaking point. In June 1969, armed with a .38 revolver, he boards TWA Flight 154.
What begins as a commercial flight out of Oakland becomes an extraordinary hostage takeover when Brent seizes control of the Boeing 707 and demands passage to revolutionary Cuba, staking everything on the belief that somewhere beyond America, another revolution will recognize him as one of its own.
Told through a fictionalized narrative grounded in historical record and the firsthand perspectives of those who knew and loved him most, HAVANA BROTHER is a visceral, unflinching, yet deeply intimate historical drama and political thriller about a man who finds purpose and belonging in the fight for Black liberation.
When that fight collides with his instinct to survive, Brent is forced toward a choice that will separate him from the cause, brotherhood, and family that gave his life meaning.
